Sunday reading : "post - truth"

 Post - Truth

This blog is response about sunday task reading of  " post truth", this task is given by Dr. Barad sir . In this blog i'm going to discuss about what is " post truth" , and given some example of it, and also going to connect this with what is my learning in the workshop on thinking skills.

Write a defination of  "post truth".

Basically a post truth is situation in which people are less influenced by factual information than by their emotions or by beliefs they already believe and hold.

Post truth is basically concern about disputes over public truth claims. This term was used academically and publicly before 2016. Oxford dictionary popularly defined it as-

"Relating to and denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief."

This defination is given by Oxford dictionary.

Here is one picture which is related to post truth. Politics deals with public emotions and their personal belief which they hold since vety long time. Simply we can say that politicians are emotionaly blackmailed poeple. Here facts going one side and people feelings going anothor side in politics. polititions are mostly not aware about facts and they just emotionaly trap peoples and play with their emotins.

Upon picture is shows that how people trust blindly  on  social  media, they believe that truth is a conspiracy to keep them in their place. They just ingired truth, they just want to recieve simple answer which are connected with their emotions and sentiments, they don't want to understand complex answer which are correct. Simply we can say that they don't want to apply their mind.

This term was named in Oxford dictionaries " eorld of the year" in 2016. This also known as " post truth politics" and " post truth society".  This " post truth" is specifically connect with 21 century communication and cultural practices.

Many scholars write upon this and this subject is increasing scholarly attention and public debate, this term is mostly associated with some forms like fake or false news, rumors, hoaxes and political lying. Post truth only shares with it a general concern about knowledge, truth, and reality. It is especially studied as a media and communication studied phenomenon with particular form of truth telling.

Dicsuss a few examples of post truth.

Here, i'm going to explain " what is post - truth " or " post truth politics". And share some examples in india, and also describe brief introduction to the journey of humans persuit of truth and knowledge about it.

The history of human civilization, ways of knowing things is too vast. Few things people understand but still many things they didn't. If they can't understant things they attributed it to god and nature.

In this modern time many peoples believe that earth is flat pallat, or why did the earth shake....? God must be angry. People believes that way. In this time religion had been invested and also belief and faith get certain higher order was the basic of knowledge during this time.

Here i share some lies of indian government-

No new cases of covid - 19 after 16 may-

On 24 april, vinod paul, a member of the Niti aayog, and he is chairperson of the national task forse for covid - 19. He presented a slide that clsimed that the number of new coronavirus cases would drop to about a thousand by 10 may, and that india would see no more new cases after 16 may, and also paul said that " no need to fear of hidden spike in # covid cases. The disease is in control."  His models predicted that the cases would peak at just above 1500 cases a day.

This is not only claim but rubbish thing by several members of another group which created the central government to advise the covid - 19 responce. This proved false. On may 10, indias had started growing at a rate if 5000 a day and reached 10,000 by the june.

The government is announcing a 20 lakh crore package for covid relief:

On 13 may, prime minister modi said  " the economic package that is being announce tiday. If added, comes to around rs20lakh crores, this oackage is about ten percent of india's GDP with this various sections of the country and those linked to economic system will get support and strength of 20 lakh crore rupees."

This economic package was annouced by modi and nirmala sitaraman the union finance minister. This types of several annoncements was a part of packege, which were already in the pipeline before the covid -19 pendamic. This type of many announcements were proven sometiomes half truth or sometimes totaly lies.

Here i share some pictures which i took from facebook page-

In this Raghuram rajan said that " This government believes only those who are right, who apploud him, rest are wrong."

Bassicaly he says that modi sarkar always believe those peoples who apploud his goverment not those people who are actualy right and have logical, knowledgeable opinion. Mostly those people apploud him who are his goverements member.

Here i share anothor picture-

Here we get to khow that pm doesn't khow about what is the number of position of india in economy country.  He should know about it, but he shoundn't.

So we could say that in india there were many politions who were not studied, many times they don't have knowledge about what are they saying. They give statment without knowing things. Most of they tells lies to get vote of people.  Sometimes they emotionally trap people and win the vote. They are just playing with peoples fealings they don't care about their fealings.

We teach many things in thinking skill workshop of milan panya sir. we learned that

"if something is true what else has to ne true"

We are human being and we are supirior than other creatures. We are very intelligence creature, if we get or heard some statment, than we should not follow it blindly it might be wrong. We should think by ourself what is our opinion abot any statment which we recieve by anyone, might they were politiciaon, MLA, PM, or our teachers.

Your teacher might be wrong think by youself.

In this modern world T.V media, and politicians spreding wrong things and spreding lies to get vote of peoples and win elections. So we can't blindly trust anyone.
Here i atteched my blog on thinking skill workshop of milan pandya sir, who is creaticle writer and thinker.

And i embeded a video of ravish kumar on fake news

To conclude i could say that " post truth" is a situation of this modern time people, so we shoul go through about truth, search what is truth. Don't blindly trust anyone. In india most of politicions, government servents gave lie statment and emotional statment to get vote of peoples and also shows their powe to control people. So we should go through all that kind of things which is related to us and what is truth about it.

Thank you.

Bridge course : wordsworth's preface to lyrical ballad.

Bridge course : wordsworth's preface to lyrical ballad.

This blog is a  response to a task given by Dr. Barad sir, and in this blog I'm going to discuss some important points about Wordsworth's preface to lyrical ballad in this blog.

What is the basic difference between the poetic career of "classicism " and " romanticism".

First of all, classicism and romanticism are artistic movements that have influenced many things, for example visual arts, music, and architecture of western world over many countries. Although the characteristics of those movements are frequently at odds, both schools of thought continued to influence western art into the 21 st century.

Classicism:

Basically the term classic or classical came into use in the seventeenth century. This describes the art culture of the ancient civilisations of Greece and rome. The  following of the principles of these ancient civilisations in art, architecture and literature is referred to as classicism.

Here is some pictures of architecture of this age-

Leeds town hall

Parthenon

And here is one painting of this age-

Gaulli apotheosis of the franciscan order.

Classicism defines true beauty as that which demonstrates balance and order, with its origins in the ancient Greek and Roman societies.

The name "classical" was given to the Greeks and Romans by renaissance writers. Renaissance  literally means  " rebirth", and renaissance thinkers and artists saw themselves as the heirs of that world following the middle ages. The ideals continued to influence into the age of Enlightenment in the 1774 and 18 th centuries.

In English literature, classicism values traditional forms and structures, the roman poet virgil left an order for his masterpiece " The Aeneid" which burned at his death, because a few of its lines were still metrically imperfect. The italian poet Dante Alighiery, whose divine comedy contains over 14,000 lines written in a strict rhyming pattern known as terza rima. We can say that other characteristics of this movement include balance, order and emotional restraint.

Romanticism:

Romanticism developed in the 18th century as a reaction against the ideas of classicism, and it expresses beauty through imagination and powerful emotions.

Here is a picture of paintings of this time-

Romanticism is a somewhat confusing term, since modern English speakers tend to associate the word "romance" with a  variety of love. This  is an artistic movement that celebrates all strong emotions, not just feelings of love. Romantic artists valued the search for beauty and finding meaning in all aspects of life. As the rather than reason.

We can differentiate classicism and romanticism by the treatment of emotions, that is how they deal with emotions. The romantics placed a higher value on the expression on the strong emotion than on technical perfection.

Those are some basic differences between Romanticism and classicism.

Why does Wordsworth say " what is a poet?" rather than "who is  poet"?

Wordsworth gave definition of  poet. According to Wordsworth "a poet is a man speaking to man: a man, it is true, endowed with more lively sensibility, more enthusiasm and tenderness.

Poet has a greater knowledge of human nature, knows human nature very well, and a more comprehensive soul, than one supposed  to be common among mankind.

He is a man pleased with his own passions and volitions, and who rejoices more than other men in the spirit of life that is in him. Delighted to contemplate similar volitions and passions as manifested in the goings on the universe, and habitually compelled to create them where he does not find them.

Poets can better remember things produced by real events which other men can't.

From his practice, he has a power in expressing things that he thinks and feels. And especially those thoughts and feelings which, by his own choice, or from the structure of his own mind, arise in him without immediate external excitement.

What is poetic diction ? Which sort of poetic diction is suggested by wordsworth in his preface?

" Preface to lyrical ballads " is an  essay written by william worsworth which serves as an important piece of literary criticism. This essay is the bible of romanticism because it throws powerful insights into the romantic notions of the school of poetry and understands the main idea behind it.

This poetic diction is the essay that suggested by wordsworth that what is " real language of men. He has selected to communicate and to connect with common people, that they can understand. Each and every poem has its own "purpose" to share and evoke " pleasure" by common language.

He argues that the " language of men" is refined when the " humble and rustic elements are used as a setting in the poem. He defended that if a man speaks and communicates with another man for hours that is best " objects" where the " best part of language is derived .

He also highlighted that the " language which comes from regular life and " repeated experience " are permanent and more philosophical.

Lastly, he further argues about the poetic diction that reduction of rhetorical devices has a typical reason. The reason behind it was

" bring my language closer to the language of man.

He added that the " pleasure" he impacts in poetry is different from others.

What is poetry?

In 1802, william wordsworth tried to explain his views on poetry. He tried to explain how poetry functions and the nature of the craft itself. He also explains what a true poet is. He did all of this in his " preface to lyrical ballads."

William Wordsworth says that he has selected incidents and situations of common life. He describes them by selection of common life. He describes them by a selection of languages really used by men. In the past this ordinary life of the ordinary people has never been a subject of poetry.

They suffer from social vanity. Wordsworth says in the lyrical ballad that humble and rustic life has been chosen as the theme of poetry, because the essential passions of the heart find a better soul in which they can attain their maturity in life. He also says that this humble and rustic life holds simplicity, serenity and tranquility.

According to Wordsworth poetry is "poetry sheds no tears, such as angels weep, but natural and human tears." Another important idea of wordsworth about poetry is that the function of poetry is to give pleasure to readers by presenting the incidents and situations of their lives.

Therefore Wordsworth agrees with Aristotle, " poetry is the most philosophical of all writings, the subject of poetry is general and operative truth which is its own testimony."

According  to J.C. Smith, an eminent critic," the nature of poetry will appear more clearly when we have considered its end or purpose, or the function of the poet in a civil society."

The poet's main business is to describe human life in its very form and to establish a relationship between man and the universe.

So Wordsworth says that poetry is the first and last of all knowledge; it is as immortal  as the heart of man.

Discuss " Daffodils" i wandered lonely as a cloud with reference to wordsworth's poetic creed.

Introduction-

Before one can understand daffodils we should go through what is the Wordsworth poetic creed.

Wordsworth writes in a subjective style. He examines his state of mind before attempting to write a creative work. This is largely why he fell in love with nature and became a nature worshiper. He believes in a primordial relationship between the mind of man and the nature around him.

Wordsworth's poetic creed.

Wordsworth believed that a real language of poem should be in common and rustic language, so that common and rustic people can understand poems and also he believes that poetry should contain events from real and common, everyday life. He believes that a poem should be spontaneous and that it should arise out of powerful emotions which are recollected in tranquility. He also believes the mind of man is capable of achieving ecstasy even without the influence of drugs.

Wordsworth was a worshiper of nature, and he believes that nature is his religion. He loves nature deeply.

This shows Wordsworth poetic creeds. This is how he gave his understanding of poetic creed.

Daffodils - william wordsworth

This poem is written by william wordsworth. Wordsworth was known as the fountainhead of romanticism.

This poem describes how the spontaneous emotions of the poet's heart sparked by the dance of daffodils, help him to write this sweet little poem.

On 15 april 1802, wordsworth and his sister Dorothy came across a host of daffodils around glencoyne bay in the lake district and this event was the inspiration behind the composition of wordsworth's lyrical poem.

Explanation-

The speaker of this poem is wandering down the hills and valley  when he stumbled upon a beautiful field of daffodils. The daffodils look waving, fluttering, and dancing among the waterside. They are even the lake and trees are fluttering and shifting as they are blown by the breeze.

Speaker notes how the flowers seem to go one without ending. Alongside a bay. Speaker guesses that there are many thousand daffodils.

Near the daffodils, the water waves are shining by sunlight on the bay. But the daffodils seem to look more joyful than waves, the speaker stares at daffodils, without yet realizing the full extent of that positive effect.

After this beautiful experience he lies on the couch, remembers all things, imagining all things he fills with joy and his mind starts dancing with the daffodils.

Structure of poem-

  • This poem is composed of four stanzas of six lines each.

  • It is a quatrain couplet rhyme scheme, ABA BCC.

  • Every line conforms to iambic tetrameter.

  • Consonance and alliteration are used to create rhymes.

  • There are four iambs in each line.

  • Poem written in first person point of view.

Figurative language and poetic devices.

  • Wordsworth makes use of several literary devices in this poem. Similes, hyperboles, personification, and allusion, these include but are not limited.

  • The daffodils are even made anthropomorphous to create a human portrayal of mother nature.

Themes

  • Theme of nature

  • Memory

  • spirituality

Symbolism

This poem begins with a symbolic reference to the cloud.

Tone and mood

  • Emotive

  • Hyperbolic

  • Expressive

  • Thoughtful

Conclusion-

To conclude we can say that william wordsworth was great figer of that time and he point out some important things in his essay "preface to lyrical ballad".

Thinking activity : Romantic poets

  Thinking Activity

This blog is about thinking activity romanticism, given by our yesha ma’am. Our department of English organized an academic visit to Victoria Park but I couldn't join them because of some reason. But I'm gonna share my experience through their pictures and some amazing videos that were shared by them in our study group. In this blog I'm going to share about how I connect with nature, how it inspires me.

There is one artist that i like the most who is Vincent Van Gogh, his love of nature did not come out of thin air. In his youth, he went on long walks through the fields and woods near Zundert, that is his village where he was born.. He developed his life long love of nature in the brabant countryside.it is hardly surprising that vincent’s art also become inseparably linked with nature. He also wrote that

“ if i felt no love for nature and my work, then i would be unhappy” in 1882.

He also quoted this one-

Q-1 write about the purpose of the visit-

The purpose  of visiting Victoria park is academic, this part is located near iscon club, khodiyar temple and Himalaya mall in Bhavnagar. Victoria is an old and one of the most popular parks in Bhavnagar. It is just like the Sanjay Gandhi national park in Mumbai city. Victoria park is one of India's oldest  man made forests that is maintained by the government of India.

The park has contributed immensely in educating and raising awareness among the public wildlife. Schools make visits here to raise awareness in kids, and this is a good place to relax and go away from the noise of the city.

By the name of this park “victoria park” it helps us to understand the romantic era. We could connect this park with the romantic era of English literature. First of all we should know that what is romanticism-

Romanticism-

Romanticism is an artistic, literary, musical, and intellectual movement that originated in Europe in 18 th century. It is also called romantic movement or romantic era.  It is a movement  of art,

literature, and music, in the late 18 and early 19 century in Europe.

Here is a painting of this age- the wanderer: above the sea of fog.

This movement is about feelings, imagination , nature, human life, freedom of expression, individualism, and old folk tradition, such as legends and fairy tales, were important. It was a reaction to the aristocratic social and political ideas of the age of enlightenment and industrial revolution.

It was also a reaction against turning nature into amare science. This movement showed most strongly in arts like music, and literature.

The second generation of romantic poets, especially Shelly and Byron, became famous for their works, later romantic poetry also retained by many characteristics like black, and Wordsworth. Keats odes much like the poetry of Wordsworth, he took inspiration from nature, and Byron ‘s poetry had strong introspective character.

Nature was also a sourse of inspiration in the visual arts of the romantic movement. Romantic artists dipicted nature to be not only beautiful, but poverful, unpredictable, and destructive.

There was also something pioneering almost revolutionary about romanticism. In ivolved breaking with the past, and consciously moving away from the ideas and tradition of the Enlightnment. We could say that romanticism fundamentally changed the prevelling  attitudes towards nature, emotion, reason, and even the individual.

Q-2 write about “ how nature can influence the soul”

Spending time outside and connecting to nature has been proven to improve our health and welbeing. It can boosting our mood and potential for creative thinking.

Connecting to nature is easier than you think. It is not always about grand outdoor adventures although we do think they are great, but it can be also a simple having a few houseplants arond the house and some collection of plants.

Talking a nature walk, without all your technical gadgets, allows a part of your brain that recieves all the attention overlod time to recover. Being in nature helps us to feel alieve, encourages mindset and make us happier humans.

As i’m going to describe that how nature inspire me than i’m definitely say that it inspire me a lot. I Could call my self "aesthete" i have deep sensitivity to the nature beauty of art nature. i’m not poet that it inspire me to write a poem, but it inspire me to paint the ellements of nature. Doing live sketches is my one of favourite task, i started painting when i was just 5 years old, i never left it and always learn new forms and differrant medium of painting, like how to do acrylic painting, watercolor painting, oil painting, and soft pastel, oil pastal, and pencil sketching and many more…When i see a beautiful clouds, nature scenary i took picture of it and paint it

Art has allowed me to grow closer to nature. I have always love the natural world, but drawing and painting it allowed me to learn more and connect with it on a deeper level. The more i started drawing nature, the more i became facinated with landscape. When i painted landscap or any object i’m go through all small details that can i see. It give me pice of mind and i forgot my problems and take me to my imaginary art world, That’s why i choose the world for my youtube studio “ parmar artworld”.  The sound of nature also fascinated me like the sound of birds, river water. Nature inspire me and give me new ideas and creative thoughts to make creative piece of artwork.

Here i put some of my paintings inspire by nature-

Q-3 share your experience-

This acadamic visist conducted on 20th July 2022. Here i share my experience through listens others experience, and what i was experience if i was there. If i was visited Victoria park than definitely take many photos of scenery, trees, some plants, landscape, flawours, leaves and many more. i searched perfect photo that i can paint.this visit organised in monsoon season that is why they cant see wild animanl due to rain. And its infrascructure made with wood, and the theme of the park was seem very actractive.

At the end we could say  that this Victoria park  is full of nature and this visit organiced to connact nature with romanticism. In romanticism nature had it’s own vallue upon literature and this modern time also have it’s value. If i was visited i definetly draw live sketch of scenary.

Here i ambeded a link of my youtube video of “ watercolor landscape painting”

Thank you.
